  Megan Helsby

Megan is the Early Foundations Manager for ACSI South Africa and she is responsible for ‘enabling Christian educators’ in pre-schools and in Grade R to Grade 3.

Megan is passionate about children, teaching and teacher training. She is an experienced pre-primary, primary and remedial teacher who has taught children of all ages, both individually, in the school classroom and in the church.

Megan’s energy and enthusiasm have, over the years, been channelled by God into various ministries and projects, particularly the development of people and learning and teaching materials. She has presented teaching training workshops and has developed Bible reading and lesson materials for national organisations such as Scripture Union, SANSSA, the Baptist Union and Heartlines.

Megan has been an Early Childhood Development lecturer both at the ‘old’ Johannesburg College of Education and at the Wits School of Education where she always sought ways to put theory into practice so that learning was real and relevant. Recently Megan has been part of a team of writers who have developed the Grade R Practitioners’ Course for the Wits School of Education.

Megan believes strongly in the concept of mentorship and strives to encourage and inspire others to use their God-given creativity and to pass their knowledge and skills on to others.

Megan is married to Brian and their immediate family consists of two sons, two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren, all of whom are presently living overseas.

The Work

This year the focus of the Early Foundations Department is the training of pre-school and Grade R teachers, especially in the Community Pre-Schools. Regular training workshops are held for member schools in different centres: Tembisa, Madibeng, Brits, Hammanskraal, Makapanstad, Temba and HeronBridge (for Diepsloot and other areas). These workshops aim to give the 200 participating teachers knowledge as well as skills in the specialized areas of pre-school and Grade R education.

Become part of a dynamic team of Christian educators in Pre-Schools and Foundation Phases by contacting Megan to find out more about membership with ACSI!
