About us!

In 1928, down by the Nahoon River, you would have found a small asbestos and wood building. It was a Government school called the Nahoon Causeway School. The children had no uniform, shoes, or sports fields, but they had fun on the open fields in the area. The numbers dwindled over time and it closed down. All equipment was sold and the records returned to the Ministry of Education. However, the leaders of the Abbotsford Christian Centre Church were visionaries who saw a need and realized that there was great potential. What an opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the children of the area! They walked the grounds, claiming them in the Name of Jesus, and they worked and planned. The outcome? The Education Department entrusted the buildings and grounds to the church as a gift. All obstacles were overcome and in 1991 an Educare class started. In 1992 a second class was added. Growth continued, classrooms were added as they were required and in 2009 the first Grade 12 class wrote their finals. Over the years two classes for children with special needs were added. In 2015 plans were drawn for a new Foundation Phase and four beautiful, large, light and airy timber-framed classrooms and a new ablution block was added. Great was the excitement when this building, with its magnificent open deck overlooking many trees and a small stream, was formally opened in May 2016.

In 2016, due to a demand for Christian schooling in East London, we decided to start a second class in each grade, beginning with Grade 1 in 2016. In 2017 we opened our second Grade 2 class and the doubling up process has continued. This year we opened our second Grade 6 class and we look forward to the completion of this doubling up process in 2022 when we open our second Grade 7 class.

Currently we have 318 learners enrolled. Sadly, due to many challenges with space and facilities, the high school classes were phased out over a number of years. Our last class of Grade 12s matriculated at the end of 2019

What God has done!

The increase in our numbers has led to amazing growth and transformation of our campus. In 2018/2019 we built a media centre and staff room. The media centre has allowed us to introduce our children to a new world of technology. In 2019 God gave us a promise from Revelations 3 vs 9 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have little strength, have kept my word , and have not denied my name.”

In 2019/ 2020 we saw God do the miraculous in our school as he opened doors for us in our personal lives and in the financial life of our school. With God’s provision we were able to renovate and upgrade our admin block, build a new tuck shop, a “kiss and drop” area was built and a new sports field was developed. It was humbling to see the favour of God on our school. The development of the campus will continue this year with some smaller projects, namely a new Intermediate Phase playground area, the resurfacing of our netball court and an extension to the Grade R veranda area.

We are blessed with an amazing team of people, who we call our school family. We currently have 24 teachers and 8 support staff members on staff. They are passionate about education and we are united in our common love for Jesus.

The future!

We continue to dream about the future of ACS and are excited to see what God has planned for our “little” school that has a really “big” heart. We dream of one day having our very own hall and Creative Arts Centre. The plans are being drawn and we are trusting God to do what only He can do. This year God gave me the scripture in Psalm 16 vs 8. “I have set the Lord always before me; because he is my right hand, I shall not be shaken“ 2020 shook all of us up. We were pushed out of our comfort zones and faced many fears and anxieties. Some days we may have felt tossed about but we were not defeated. Although we were shaken up, we were not shaken. As this new year starts, we have chosen to find our rest and our hope in Jesus. We serve a mighty, faithful and good God. We may face uncertain days ahead, but we are standing on God’s word. We may feel “shaken up” but we will not be shaken. One of God’s names is Jehovah Mekadesh…the Lord who sanctifies you. This means we are set apart, we belong to God and can be used for His purposes and plans. How reassuring to know that God sets us apart to be His own and then uses us in His service in His Kingdom. Our prayer is that you, our ACSI family, will all be reminded of who you are. You are sanctified and set apart by God, you are loved and belong to him and he has a specific purpose and plan for you and for your families this year. What an awesome thought.

So whatever this year brings, may we hang onto our Jehovah Mekadesh, who is constantly at work in our lives. May we grow deeper in our relationship with him and lead our little ones into the same. Our prayer at Abbotsford Christian School is that our children may know that they are set apart by Him, that they are loved by Him and belong to Him and that they are called to serve Him. For many years we enjoyed a close relationship with ACSI. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we were forced to terminate our membership with ACSI at the end of 2017. This left our hearts saddened as we had experienced the value of belonging to such an association.
However, we never really left the family. Sean and Cathy Moore and their team constantly stood beside us, visited us and encouraged us. The unwavering and unconditional love and support we received from them left me feeling undeserving. After much prayer on the part of the Senior Management Team and with the approval of the SGB we were able to reaffiliate at the end of 2020. So we are back home…and it feels great.
