Accounting Teacher (High School) [Grade 9 – 12]

Job Summary/Key Duties:

General details:

4. This is a full-time position (07:30 – 15:30 daily).
5. All full-time staff are also expected to attend two staff development meetings after school, each week, until 16:00.
6. The applicant should have an appropriate qualification in Accounting, as well as a PGCE
7. Experience in teaching Accounting at a Cambridge school would be an advantage
8. Registration with SACE is necessary.
9. Staff are required to participate in the High School extra-mural programme.
Key Responsibilities:
A Teaching Accounting in the Senior High School:
● Preparing Grade 11s and 12’s for the Cambridge Advanced Subsidiary (AS Level) examinations, written in November of the Grade 12 year.
● Preparing Grade 9s and 10s for the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations, written in November of the Grade 10 year.
● Teaching the curriculum content from a Biblical Worldview perspective.
B Teaching Accounting in the Junior High School:
● Guiding the Grade 8 EMS teacher, to lay a firm foundation for the principles of Accounting to be introduced from mid-Grade 8 onwards.
● Teaching the curriculum content from a Biblical Worldview perspective.
C Assisting Students to enter for Olympiads / Competitions:
Example – the JSE Schools Challenge

Qualifications/Requirements:

Professional Development:
Training will be provided in transitioning from the NSC curriculum to Cambridge, if necessary, and staff are regularly sent on Cambridge training (online or face-to-face).
Opportunities:
● With the necessary qualifications and experience, this position has the potential to be a Head of Department post.
● The opportunity exists to become a Cambridge examiner/marker by following a training program provided by Cambridge.
Unique teaching environment:
● The classes are small and the teacher has the opportunity to build a relationship with the students
Examples:
Grade 8 to 9 – 20 in a class
IGCSE groups – about 15 in a class
AS Level groups – about 10 in a class
● Staff work in small departments, where Biblical support and mentoring promotes teamwork and spiritual growth.
