Art & Design Teacher (High School)

Job Summary/Key Duties:

Key Responsibilities:
A – Art & Design Subject teaching in the High School
● Teaching the Cambridge curriculum in the Senior High School
o The Cambridge AS Level curriculum is followed in Grades 11 and 12
o The Cambridge IGCSE curriculum is followed in Grades 9 and 10
● The Cambridge Art & Design course includes the following areas of study: painting and related media/fi ne art, graphic communication, three-dimensional design and textile/fashion, and it will be an advantage if the applicant is skilled in various mediums/multimedia.
● Research skills form an important part of the course, especially research into artists, designers and cultural influences
● Individual interviews are held with students from time to time to provide constructive feedback and guidance to students on their individual portfolios and development. ● Weekly meetings with the art department as well as the Academic Head will be required.
● All teachers will be required to do online Cambridge training from time to time.

B – Assisting with one of the extra-mural Art clubs
Professional Development:
Training and support will be provided as applicable. Weekly staff development meetings are held on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 15:00 -16:00 and staff may be required to attend additional training courses from time to time.
Opportunities: Training and assistance will be given in transitioning from the national curriculum to the Cambridge curriculum. Staff are encouraged to avail themselves of the Cambridge online and in-person training available. ACSI meetings and conferences also offer opportunities for professional development.
Unique teaching environment:
● Classes are small and the teacher has the opportunity to build a relationship with the students
● Staff work in small departments, where Biblical support and mentoring promotes teamwork and spiritual growth.

General Details:
1. Applications must be sent to the headmaster via email at headmaster@escs.org.za or delivered to reception and suitably addressed for the headmaster’s attention.
2. Interviews will commence shortly after the closing date.

4. This is a full-time position (07:30 – 15:30 daily).
5. All full-time staff are also expected to attend staff development meetings after school, twice a week, till 16:00.
6. The applicant should have an appropriate qualification in Art, e.g. a BA (Fine Art) degree and a PGCE
7. Art staff are required to participate in the High School extra-mural Art program.
