The Wonder of Leading Through Life's Defining Moments

Dr. Michael Lindsay, President, Taylor University ACSI Global

Every leader experiences seasons of change that challenge their work and alter the course of their life. These defining moments often arrive without warning or fanfare, but our response to them shapes not only our leadership, but our character as well.

For Christian leaders, such times carry an even deeper significance. These defining moments often serve as conduits for cultivating wisdom and opportunities to lean more fully on the Lord and to reset, asking God to guide us. The weight of these moments can be immense, but the Lord often uses them to shape us in ways that routine seasons rarely do. And, when we enter into these seasons with faith, the Lord uses them to refine our calling and deepen our impact.

Effective leadership during times of transition requires more than strategy.

It demands discernment rooted in Scripture, a steady heart, and the humility to trust God’s timing. These moments invite us to step forward with courage, even when clarity is in short supply. What often feels like disruption may actually be divine redirection, and when leaders recognize the spiritual growth potential within seasons of change, we can begin to view them not as interruptions but as integral to God’s work in our lives. Such awareness allows us to lead others with grace and intentionality, bearing witness to the hope that defines our faith.

Defining moments are rarely easy, but they are rarely wasted. In God’s hands, they become the very hinge moments through which transformation unfolds
