Hospitality Teacher

Job Summary/Key Duties:
Key responsibilities
• Teach Hospitality Studies to high school learners in Grades 9-12 under the IEB curriculum
• Plan and deliver engaging theory and practical lessons, including food preparation, food and beverage service, and kitchen and hygiene practices
• Prepare learners for their practical assessments and final examinations
• Develop annual teaching plans, lesson plans and assessment programmes in line with IEB requirements
• Set, administer and mark assessments, and keep accurate, up-to-date records of learner marks and progress
• Moderate practical and written assessments, and meet all internal and IEB deadlines
• Manage the hospitality kitchen and classroom, including equipment, stock control, ordering and maintenance
• Enforce health, safety, food hygiene and sanitation standards at all times
• Plan the budget for practical lessons and manage ingredients and supplies responsibly
• Organise and coordinate catering for school functions and events where required
• Provide extra support and feedback to learners who need it, and encourage excellence in every learner
• Integrate a biblical worldview into teaching and model Christian character and values
• Take part in staff meetings, parent-teacher meetings, training and professional development
Qualifications/Requirements:
Requirements
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or B.Ed.) with Hospitality Studies as a teaching subject, or an equivalent hospitality or catering qualification with teaching experience
- Valid SACE registration
- Experience teaching Hospitality Studies at high school level (preferred)
- Knowledge of the IEB curriculum and assessment requirements (preferred)
- Practical, hands-on experience in a professional kitchen or the hospitality industry (advantageous)
- Willingness to work Saturdays and after-hours events
- A commitment to the Christian ethos and values of The King’s School Robin Hills
