Head of People and Integration

Job Summary/Key Duties:

Calling Education’s most important asset is its staff. Continuous investment is required into the processes of recruitment, onboarding, development, engagement and appraisal to help staff live their purpose in the schools. Maintaining brand standards and ensuring integration across campuses is key to delivering Calling’s growing mission. The Head of People and Integration will help build systems and culture to enable the well-being and performance of its people while guiding processes to ensure campus alignment.
The role will work closely with the CEO and the school principals, who each lead their own campus. The Head of People and Integration will be a trusted advisory support to principals, helping them shape their schools effectively.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Partner with the CEO and principals to grow and implement the people strategy.
• Own and continuously improve Calling’s recruitment and hiring strategy and processes.
• Establish processes that are consistent across campuses while allowing flexibility for each school’s context.
• Use employee data and feedback to identify organisational priorities and improve employee experience.
• Help ensure that Calling’s culture, values, and brand standards remain strong as the organisation grows, monitoring implementation at campus level.
• Provide guidance on performance management, professional development, employee relations and team dynamics.
• Ensure effective onboarding that helps new employees quickly understand mission and culture.
• Develop approaches to succession planning, talent development and the retention of high-performing staff.
• Protect and strengthen mission-alignment and school values across campuses.
• Guide mechanisms for listening to employees and gauging organisational health.
• Oversee and guide core HR processes, records and compensation philosophy.
• Serve as a senior point of contact for complex employee relations matters.
• Ensure employment practices are fair and compliant.
Note: While the role will centre on people processes and improving integration across campuses, other senior leadership opportunities will likely arise and the role should development over time. The role will require flexibility and the wisdom to discern what should be delivered in support of Calling’s mission.

Qualifications/Requirements:

PERSON DESCRIPTION

  • A strong alignment with Calling’s Christian mission and conviction about education as redemptive industry in South Africa.
  • An experienced educationist with the ability to support and guide senior leadership.
  • Strategic thinking ability to help guide the expansion of Calling’s mission and an awareness of how the role should be developed.
  • Experience in guiding or coaching leaders or a background in people development.
  • A practical understanding of people processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A wide-ranging skillset to take on additional responsibilities given that the role is likely to develop.
  • The ability to shift between the strategic and the practical.
  • The ability to work and build trust with a wide range of employees.

CONCLUSION

Calling Education wants to invest in its organisational health as it scales. The Head of People and Integration will play a key role in ensuring that Calling scales with wisdom and remains on mission.

Additional Information:

Reports to: CEO and supports school principals
Location: Hybrid with access to the Cape Winelands preferable. The role will serve schools in different locations from the central office.
Employment: Full-time or part-time – to be discussed with the successful candidate.
Starting date: February 2027 (negotiable)
