Nokuphila School

Principal: Mabel Sikhakhane April 2023
Nokuphila School admits learners from the disadvantaged community of Tembisa. The admissions are done with referrals from local child welfare organisations and community workers. The learners attend mainstream classes from Grade 000 to Grade 7. However, those who experience barriers to learning are referred to the psychologist, the occupational therapist, or the expert remedial teacher, depending on the nature of the challenges they are experiencing in the classroom. For social and emotional therapy, the learners are referred to the social worker or for counselling. Other co-curricular classes are The Link, which is the class for supplementary Mathematics and Literacy lessons in the Foundation Phase. The school-based Support Team oversees the holistic support of the learners by conducting further interventions after the class teacher’s intervention has ended. All evidence of tests/ support/interventions is kept for District support and referral purposes if required. For instance, if a learner has been identified as in need of specialised education, he/she can be referred to a special school.

All the support is done with the objective of ensuring that the learners get quality Christian education. The school-based support team also comprises of the pastoral care teacher who looks into the spiritual side of the learners.

The school’s academic achievement is excellent.
