Secondary School Science Teacher

Job Description
There are currently 2 vacancies for the 2027 school year (commencing January 2027):
Upper Secondary Physics
Lower Secondary General Science

The Secondary School Science Teacher is responsible for teaching Science to assigned classes, ensuring compliance with school curriculum. He/she plays a pivotal role in ensuring quality lessons and education of students in this subject.
Some of the tasks for which a teacher will be responsible are:
Teaching secondary Physics / General Sciences on a full-time basis, including lesson planning and preparation, planning and marking assessments, and recording and reporting on the achievements of each student in their care .
Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities and achievement of the individual students and groups of students
Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual students, groups of students or class entrusted to him/her
Providing guidance and advice to students on educational and social matters and on their further education and future careers; providing information on sources of more expert advice
Provide cover for absent teachers and/or study hall as requested by the Head of School, Curriculum Leader, or Relief Coordinator.
Reviewing and evaluating one’s own teaching and learning strategies, methodologies and programme/s with a view to improving practice and the learning experiences for students
Maintaining good order and discipline amongst students under one’s care and safeguarding their health and safety at all times
Monitoring the attendance of students under one’s care
Being responsible for keeping the classroom a neat, welcoming and stimulating environment for the students
With the Head of School, assessing delivery of the scope and sequence of the core subjects for your class
Serving as a homeroom teacher
Participating in school camps as required
Consulting with and guiding parents as they may request specific to their own child
Participate actively in team and faculty meetings with a view to share instructional approaches
Ensuring high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning of the subject/s. Through effective dialogue, participating in reciprocal peer review and observation of class teaching practice with the Head of School
Participating in training courses as well as in continuing professional development opportunities, and when applicable taking part in action research exercises
Ensuring the safe custody and optimum use of equipment normally used by oneself during lessons and sees to its regular servicing and maintenance
Participating in school assemblies, sporting events, parent evenings, production and other special events that may fall outside of normal school hours
Any cognate duties that may assigned from time to time by Head of School

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor or higher in Education specialising in Science OR a Bachelor Degree in a relevant field PLUS a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (or similar).
  • Relevant qualifications for child safety/safeguarding/police clearance
  • Minimum 3 years experience teaching Secondary Science
  • Experience in an international school is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills in English and French (Creole a bonus)
